Q: Discuss the citation of Shobha Rani v. Madhukar Reddi, (1988) 1 SCC 105 ?

Ans: In this citation , finally, the appellant-wife moved the court for divorce on the ground of cruelty. Her main complaint was about the dowry demanded by the husband or his parents. 

Supreme Court held that in case of mental cruelty the inquiry must begin as to nature of cruel treatment and impact of such treatment on the mind of the spouse.

The trial court rejected the appellant's case on the ground that there was no satisfactory evidence that the demands were such as to border on harassment.

Ans: During a case of Supreme Court of Rohtash Singh Vs Smt. Ramendrei & Ors. on 02-03-2000, it was held that  Wife is not entitled to maintenance who deserted her husband.
